Benefits of habit “See the big picture”

✓ Helps gain purpose for work and life
✓ Helps understand causality better
✓ Helps gain clarity on your tasks

First step:

Contemplate big picture 1 time

Progress:

1. Once per week, set time aside to contemplate big tasks ahead of you and their purpose. Think how they can contribute to one or more purposes. Write it down if you need to. We recommend doing this in the morning.
2. Next week, spend two mornings contemplating how your tasks contribute to a bigger purpose
3. Keep increasing the number of contemplative time until you do it every morning before going to work. That way, all you do won’t seem so meaningless

Helpful tips to make it a habit:

✓ Same time is key. Always contemplate big picture at the same time. That way, it will become such a habit you will think like whenever there is a mountain of work ahead.
✓ Trigger your mind. If you’re so loaded with work you forget to think of big picture, scribble down a note BIG PICTURE to remind yourself there are times you need to contemplate it.
✓ Let the app help. If you set aside a certain time, let the app’s reminder function right you when you need it.
✓ Reward yourself. Once you’ve gone a month successfully contemplating big picture of your work, treat yourself with a short holiday or a trip somewhere. In terms of big picture, the more rested you are in general, the more productive you will be, so use your new habit to your advantage!

Tips for beginners:

✓ Use a notebook. All thoughts and tasks are better managed when you have a notebook dedicated to them. Big picture is no exception. Write down for each big task what they will be good for once you finish. It will help you remember why you’re going what you’re doing
✓ Do this for more than work. Seeing big picture can be useful in every aspect of your life: relationships, social life, politics, etc. Try seeing big picture in more places and observe how it changes your outlook
