Benefits of habit “Give credit”
✓ Improves your mood
✓ Helps form new relationships
✓ Improves self-esteem of other people
✓ Leaves good impression of you
First step:
Give credit to 1 person
Progress:
1. This week, find an opportunity to give credit for the work of a colleague or a family member, a friend.
2. Next week, find another opportunity to give credit to a person you directly interact with. Do this twice.
3. Keep increasing the credit given, until you’re satisfied with the amount you give.
Helpful tips to make it a habit:
✓ Same time is key. Either catch up with the people you’re giving credit to during a break or if you decide to write a message, make it at the same time.
✓ Trigger your mind. Put post-it’s in visible locations with names of people you’d like to give credit to. That way, your brain will learn to remember.
✓ Let the app help. The reminder function on this app will signal when it’s time for your credit giving.
✓ Reward yourself. Once you’ve given credit to at least 10 people, written or verbal, treat yourself by buying a small item you always wanted. Let it be a prize to remind you of the credit you gave and will continue to give.
✓ Celebrate small victories. Every time you perform this habit, congratulate yourself! Say “I’m awesome” or “I’m so cool” out loud and with a smile on your face.
Tips for beginners:
✓ Workplace credit. Not only to authors or celebrities, but also to people around you. Common place where credit is lacking – workplace. Congratulate your colleagues about a good idea they had at the meeting. They will appreciate it greatly and you will have better working relationship with your colleagues.
✓ Give credit where it is due. Just a minute of research or paying close attention to a conversation can help you determine if you won’t be misplacing your credit. Make sure that you don’t.
✓ Give appropriate credit to yourself. Don’t forget about work that you do and if there isn’t anyone to pat you on the back, do it yourself. Buy yourself a nice dinner or share your ideas with a person close to you. It will make a world of a difference and might encourage you to give credit more often.
