Benefits of habit “Be polite on the road”
✓ You will increase your own safety on the road
✓ You will feel better about yourself
✓ You will look and feel more refined and professional
First step:
Let someone into traffic 1 time today
Progress:
1. Today, start by letting someone into traffic when opportunity presents itself. Do this, or any other polite gesture, every day once per day for a week
2. Next week, increase the number of polite actions to 2 per day
3. Keep increasing, until you feel you’re polite on the road without causing traffic accidents.
Helpful tips to make it a habit:
✓ Trigger your mind. Use a special rear mirror decoration that would act as a reminder that you’re a polite driver from now on.
✓ Let the app help. Set the reminder to ring every morning, reminding you it’s time to be polite.
✓ Reward yourself. Once you’ve gone a full month of polite driving, reward yourself by getting a new car accessory, perhaps an air freshener, or new rear mirror decoration, or even a more throughout wash.
Tips for beginners:
✓ Observe yourself. Why is it that you act impolitely during traffic? When is it happening the most? When you’re nervous? Angry? Or is it traffic that makes you angry? Or is it the just the way you’re used to it? Try to dig deep and find out what causes it.
✓ Look through some driving advice. There is some educational material that could help you improve by transporting theory into practice. Try to look into it and see what you do and could be changed.
✓ Think of safety. No matter how good of a driver you are, always assume that others around you are not and your speedy lane changes, sudden turns and excessive honking might be a distraction or a source of anxiety. Think of your own and other driver’s safety first.
