Benefits of habit “Say thank you”

✓ Improves relationships
✓ Shows your appreciation
✓ Makes you more approachable
✓ Improves image of professionalism

First step:

Once a day

Progress:

1. Today, consciously say “thank you” to one person for any small thing they have done. Do this every day for 1 week.
2. Next week, consciously say “thank you” twice per day.
3. Keep this up until you say thank you to everyone on every occasion and you don’t need to do it consciously anymore.

Helpful tips to make it a habit:

✓ Trigger your mind. While you can’t plan good deeds other will do to you, you CAN trigger yourself to remember to thank them when appropriate. Wear a discreet bracelet with words “thank you” etched on it. That way, you won’t forget to say it either.
✓ Let the app help. Every morning, the app can ring a reminder that today you have to say “thank you” on every possible occasion.
✓ Reward yourself. Once you’ve gone a month of successful daily gratitude, reward yourself by doing a bit extra for those you’re sincerely thankful to. Write down a thank you card and send it over. You will make someone’s day.
✓ Celebrate small victories. Every time you perform this habit, congratulate yourself! Say “I’m awesome” or “I’m so cool” out loud and with a smile on your face.

Tips for beginners:

✓ Observe yourself. Why is it hard to say thank you? Do you just not have the habit? Or do you feel shame that you were helped by someone? Try figuring out the root cause and work on it.
✓ Important of gratitude. Even if they say otherwise, people enjoy receiving gratitude for something they have done, no matter how small it is. You will be viewed in much friendlier light if you take time to say thank you.
